Polyphagia – always Hungry
Polydipsia – always thirsty

Then the complications arise, the longer the condition is not treated, the more complications arise.
-Diabetic Nephropathy – renal failure
-Retinopathy – blindness
-Accelerated Atherosclerosis-leads to silent heart attack and or stroke at a young age.
-Diabetic Nephropathy – damage to nerve cells (pins and needles or numbness)
-Delayed healing
-Cataracts

Well, not a pretty picture.

Acupuncture treatments focus on restoring a balance to the affected meridians which in more often cases is the kidney meridian. The signs of wasting and thirsting is often associated with a Yin depletion or an injury to the body’s fluids. This is often accompanied with a Heat Dryness, which causes the excessive thirst. The acupuncturist would likely try to clear the internal body heat, and moisten the lungs using specific points on the body that historically work in that direction. Simultaneously points to nourish the kidneys and their function would be employed to restore the delicate balance; thus giving the body an opportunity to heal itself.
